Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced the launch of the first-ever Canada Investment Summit, a major initiative aimed at attracting global capital and boosting economic growth.

The two-day event will take place in Toronto from September 14 to 15, 2026, bringing together top global investors, CEOs and business leaders to explore new opportunities in Canada.

Targeting $1 trillion in investment

The summit is part of the federal government’s broader plan to catalyse $1 trillion in total investment over the next five years. Officials say the initiative is designed to strengthen Canada’s economy by advancing large-scale nation-building projects and creating high-paying jobs.

The government highlighted Canada’s strengths, including its position as a global energy leader, vast critical mineral resources and strong trade relationships covering markets of more than 1.5 billion people.

Strategic partnerships and global outreach

The event will be hosted in partnership with Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and Public Sector Pension Investment Board, two of the country’s largest institutional investors.

Leaders from both organizations say the summit will help showcase Canada’s economic potential while building long-term partnerships with international investors.

Focus on key growth sectors

The summit will focus on attracting investment in key sectors such as clean energy, critical minerals, advanced technologies and artificial intelligence. These industries are expected to drive innovation and create thousands of new employment opportunities across the country.

Over the past year, Canada has already secured more than $97 billion in foreign investment commitments and over 20 economic and defence partnerships, according to government data.

Strengthening Canada’s global position

Carney said the summit sends a strong signal that Canada is open for business and ready to compete on the global stage. The initiative also aims to position the country as a stable and attractive destination for foreign direct investment during a period of global economic uncertainty.

Officials believe the Canada Investment Summit will play a key role in building a more resilient and independent economy while reinforcing Canada’s reputation as a leading destination for long-term investment.
