Calgary has returned to lower water demand levels after daily usage dropped back into the green zone during ongoing work on the Bearspaw South Feeder Main.

Daily Water Use Falls to 499 Million Litres

Officials say total daily consumption reached 499 million litres, placing the city back within its target range.

Residents Asked to Continue Saving Water

Authorities continue requesting that every resident save at least 25 litres of water per day.

Recommended Water Saving Measures

Residents are being asked to:

  • flush toilets only when necessary
  • keep showers to three minutes or less
  • run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads

Outdoor Water Use Still Restricted

Even with spring conditions arriving, outdoor watering remains prohibited.

Gardening Activities Asked to Wait

Residents are encouraged to delay outdoor cleaning and gardening until major reinforcement work is completed.

Alternative Outdoor Cleaning Suggested

Using a broom instead of water for decks and sidewalks is being encouraged.

Reinforcement Work Continues at Nine Pipe Segments

Crews are reinforcing a total of nine separate sections of pipe.

Main Construction Areas Identified

Current work is focused at:

  • six segments near 16 Avenue N.W. close to Sarcee Trail
  • three segments in Point McKay Park

Concrete Work Completed

Concrete reinforcement pours are now complete at all repair sites.

Backfilling Underway

Crews have started backfilling in locations where concrete curing has finished.

Pump Station Valve Work Completed

Valve replacement work at Shaganappi Pump Station is now finished.

Pipe Refilling Begins in One Section

One section of pipe is now beginning to refill because reinforcement was not required there.

Five Million Litres Needed for Refill

Officials say filling this section will require about five million litres from the Glenmore Water Treatment Plant.

Temporary Water Demand Increase Expected

This refilling process may briefly increase total water demand across the city.

Traffic Disruptions Announced

Construction near 16 Avenue N.W. and 44 Street N.W. will create temporary lane impacts.

Upcoming Lane Closures

Expected impacts include:

  • March 24 to 25 single lane eastbound closure
  • beginning April 1 two weeks of eastbound lane restrictions

Drivers Asked to Plan Ahead

Motorists are being advised to expect delays and follow posted construction signs.

Water Conservation Still Critical

Officials say continued public cooperation remains essential until all sections are fully restored.
