HALIFAX — The Nova Scotia RCMP have formally charged two young hockey players with sexual assault following an investigation into a hazing ritual that occurred last fall. Court documents confirm that both youths, who were 14 at the time of the alleged offences and have since turned 15, face multiple charges related to incidents on October 3, 2025, in Colchester County, N.S., north of Halifax.

Both accused are members of a local boys’ hockey team in the Truro area. The first youth has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual assault with a weapon, described as a mini hockey stick. The second youth faces the same charges for the same incident and has an additional charge of assault with a weapon — described as urine — for an alleged attack on one of the victims between October 1 and December 30, 2025.

Both accused are scheduled to appear in provincial youth court in Truro on April 14. Following their arrests earlier this month, all four youths involved were released on conditions. The two formally charged youths are prohibited from contacting the three victims and are not allowed to enter public dressing rooms unless accompanied by an adult.

The provincial hockey governing body, Hockey Nova Scotia, first learned of the allegations on January 30, 2026, after a minor reported being assaulted during a private team gathering. The organization immediately referred the matter to the RCMP, and the youth team involved in Truro was suspended.

Investigators collected statements from multiple witnesses, leading to new allegations of offences at other locations involving additional victims. Officers trained in trauma-informed practices are guiding the ongoing investigation, allowing survivors and witnesses to speak with police without deciding whether to participate in court proceedings.

“The RCMP is committed to supporting survivors and ensuring a thorough and sensitive investigation,” authorities stated.
