Calgary Opens Fifth Transit District Office in Northwest

The City of Calgary has opened a new Transit Peace Officer district office in the northwest, marking a key milestone in its Public Transit Safety Strategy and bringing the total number of district offices across the city to five.

The northwest office strengthens Calgary Transit’s decentralized deployment model, which places Transit Peace Officers closer to where service is delivered. City officials say the approach improves response times, increases officer visibility and ensures more consistent coverage across the transit system — all central goals of the multi-year strategy approved by City Council in October 2023.

Transit Peace Officers, including members of the Safety and Engagement Team, will deploy from the new office to support stations, buses and surrounding transit areas in the northwest. Officers will focus on addressing safety concerns, supporting transit operators and staff, and engaging directly with customers to promote a safe and welcoming transit environment.

“Expanding to a fifth district office allows us to better align our resources with community needs and respond more quickly when support is required,” said Inspector Rachael Deakin. “The district model is a cornerstone of the Public Transit Safety Strategy and strengthens our ability to deploy officers efficiently and maintain a visible presence across the transit network.”

District offices are a foundational component of the city’s transit safety plan, which aims to reduce crime, social disorder and harm on and around public transit. Success is measured through both reductions in reported incidents and improvements in how safe customers feel while using the system.

The Safety and Engagement Team plays a key role in the district model by increasing officer presence, supporting consistent fare enforcement and building trust with transit users. Officers also work closely with Calgary Transit staff and community partners to connect individuals experiencing vulnerabilities with appropriate services and supports.

Three district offices opened in January 2024 in the downtown, southwest and north areas of Calgary. A fourth office followed in the south in October 2024. The addition of the northwest location completes the city’s transition to a five-district model.

City officials say the expanded deployment model will help balance resources citywide, improve response times and strengthen public confidence in Calgary’s transit system.
