In the early hours, Pakistani Air Force jets carried out indiscriminate bombardment of civilian homes in the Gidar area of Surab, killing families as they slept. Several civilians, including women, children, and elderly men, were killed, while several others were injured. Entire households were wiped out, homes were reduced to rubble, and survivors searched through the wreckage with their bare hands for their loved ones.
Drones and Cobra gunship helicopters continue to patrol the skies over Surab, compounding the terror and fear among the civilian population.
In response, grieving families and residents of Surab brought the bodies of their loved ones to RCD road, main Chowk Surab and staged a sit-in protest, refusing to bury their dead until those responsible are held accountable and aerial operations in civilian areas are brought to an end.
This is not an isolated incident. It follows a documented pattern of aerial bombardment of civilian areas across Balochistan, from Zehri to Mastung, where the Pakistani military has repeatedly targeted residential areas and subsequently labeled those killed as โmilitantsโ to evade accountability.
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) condemns this massacre in the strongest possible terms and call on national and international human rights organisations, the United Nations, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch to urgently take notice of this massacre and hold the Pakistani state accountable for the killing of Baloch civilians, including women and children, in their own homes.
