Indonesia Confirms 430 Athletes for 2026 Asian Games in Japan

Indonesia has finalized a 430 athlete team for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi Nagoya, Japan, with the country set to compete across 35 sports at one of Asia’s biggest multi sport events.

The final number was confirmed by Indonesian Olympic Committee President Raja Sapta Oktohari during an event in Jakarta as preparations for the Games enter their final stage.

The Indonesian delegation had initially listed 432 athletes during the entry by name process. Following the Delegation Registration Meeting, the final roster was reduced by two athletes to 430. Officials did not provide details about which athletes or sports were affected by the changes.

Alongside the athletes, Indonesia will send 145 officials to Japan. The delegation will also include 78 support personnel responsible for a range of essential services, including medical care, physiotherapy, massage therapy and administrative support.

Indonesian Contingent Chef de Mission Todotua Pasaribu said preparations had been carried out jointly by the contingent management team, the Indonesian Olympic Committee and the country’s Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The preparation process has included coordination with national sports federations, meetings with team managers and officials, and direct support for athletes as they prepare for competition.

Some Indonesian athletes and teams have already begun their journey to Japan. The basketball and fencing teams were among the first groups to depart as travel plans were adjusted following the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau.

The teams traveled by land to Surabaya before continuing their journey to Japan by air through Singapore. The changes were made to ensure the athletes could reach their destination despite disruptions affecting the original travel arrangements.

Officials overseeing the Indonesian delegation have also placed strong emphasis on matters outside competition. Accommodation, transportation, medical assistance and other support services are being coordinated so athletes can concentrate fully on their events once the Games begin.

Pasaribu said the contingent management team would continue monitoring these arrangements throughout the Indonesian team’s stay in Japan.

The size of Indonesia’s delegation reflects the country’s broad participation across a wide range of sports. Competing in 35 disciplines will give Indonesian athletes opportunities to challenge for medals across individual and team events.

The final preparations come as Indonesia looks toward another major international sporting challenge in Asia. Athletes and coaches have been working through qualification requirements, training programs and logistical preparations in the lead up to the Games.

The Aichi Nagoya Asian Games will be held in Japan from September 19 to October 4, bringing together athletes from across the continent.

For Indonesia, the immediate focus will be on ensuring that all members of its delegation arrive safely, settle into their competition environment and are fully prepared when events begin.

With 430 athletes, 145 officials and 78 support staff forming the final contingent, Indonesian officials are now concentrating on the final logistical details before competition gets underway.

The Asian Games will provide Indonesian athletes with an important international platform and an opportunity to compete against some of Asia’s strongest sporting nations. With participation spread across 35 sports, the Indonesian delegation will be seeking strong performances and medal opportunities throughout the two week competition.
