Body Believed to Be Missing 11-Year-Old Parker Found in North Calgary, Police Say

The search for 11-year-old Parker, who had been missing since July 16, has come to a heartbreaking end after Calgary police confirmed that the body of a child believed to be the missing boy was discovered in northeast Calgary.

Police announced the development during a media briefing, describing the outcome as a devastating loss for Parker’s family, friends and the wider Calgary community, which had remained hopeful throughout nearly two weeks of extensive search efforts.

According to investigators, the breakthrough came after a member of the public reported finding evidence believed to match the clothing Parker was last seen wearing. Search teams responded to the area and eventually located the body of a small child.

Police believe Parker entered a deep culvert on the west side of Deerfoot Trail before travelling through an underground network of drainage pipes beneath the highway. His body was later located inside a narrow pipe on the east side of Deerfoot Trail.

The Calgary Fire Department assisted with the recovery operation using specialized technical equipment due to the dangerous conditions inside the underground tunnel system. Authorities described the network of pipes as complex and hazardous, making the search particularly challenging.

Investigators believe Parker was still wearing the same clothing he had on when he disappeared. However, they say his shoes likely became separated from him and were later carried away by water through the drainage system.

Search officials explained that while teams had been searching nearby waterways and surrounding areas throughout the investigation, the evidence discovered by the member of the public directed them toward a section of the tunnel system that required additional technical resources to access safely.

The discovery comes only days after police announced they were scaling back the large-scale ground search and shifting their investigation toward targeted leads after exhausting extensive search operations.

Parker, who was neurodivergent and non-verbal, was last seen on July 16 at his dayhome in northwest Calgary. Surveillance footage later captured him walking in the northeast part of the city later that afternoon, providing investigators with the last confirmed sighting.

His disappearance prompted one of Calgary’s largest recent search operations, involving hundreds of Calgary Police Service members, Calgary Search and Rescue volunteers, the Calgary Fire Department, specialized search teams and numerous community volunteers. The investigation also led to the issuance of an Amber Alert after provincial approval, despite police maintaining there was no evidence that Parker had been abducted.

Following days of intensive searches by land, air and water, the Amber Alert eventually expired as investigators continued to pursue every available lead.

Police expressed their condolences to Parker’s family, praising their strength and resilience throughout the difficult investigation. Authorities also thanked the many volunteers, emergency responders and members of the public who assisted in the search and supported the family during the ordeal.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is expected to complete formal identification and determine the exact cause of death. Police said the investigation remains ongoing, but at this stage there is no indication of criminal involvement.

The tragic discovery has brought a sorrowful conclusion to a search that united the Calgary community in hope, while leaving family, friends and residents mourning the loss of a young boy whose disappearance touched thousands across the city.
