Calgary Police Officer Charged with Assault Following Arrest Incident

Calgary: A serving member of the Calgary Police Service has been charged with assault in connection with an incident that occurred during an arrest in May 2025.

According to the Calgary Police Service, the charge follows an investigation into allegations that the officer repeatedly struck an individual with a closed fist during an arrest on May 22, 2025.

The case was reviewed in consultation with the Edmonton Crown Prosecutor’s Office, which recommended that criminal charges be laid against the officer.

The officer, Constable Imran Khan, who has approximately six years of service with the Calgary Police Service, has been charged with one count of assault.

Following the charge, the Calgary Police Service confirmed that Constable Khan has been suspended with pay while an internal review of his employment status is underway. The suspension will remain in effect pending the outcome of both the judicial process and the service’s internal procedures.

After being charged, Khan was released from custody and is scheduled to make his next court appearance on August 6, 2026.

Police officials have not released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the arrest or the identity of the complainant, citing the ongoing legal proceedings.

The Calgary Police Service stated that allegations involving its members are subject to independent review and appropriate legal processes to ensure accountability and maintain public confidence in law enforcement.
