We have charged a man with sexual assault, following an investigation into allegations brought forward last week.

On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, police received a report that a minor had been sexually abused over a period of nearly two years by a volunteer coach at Henry Wise Wood High School. It is believed the suspect met the victim when she was 15 and used his position of trust to groom the victim before the assaults began. The victim had contact with the suspect through her school, as well as through extracurricular activities.

Our Child Abuse Unit launched an investigation and arrested the suspect on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

Drew Alan ROBERTSON, 50, of Calgary, is now charged with one count each of sexual assault, sexual exploitation and making sexually explicit material available to children. He will next appear in court on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

The victim is receiving support from the Luna Child and Youth Advocacy Centre.

“Coaches are supposed to be instructors, leaders and mentors,” said Staff Sgt. Chris Tudor of the CPS Child Abuse Unit.  “Sexual exploitation by a person in a position of authority is a betrayal of those values, and offenders must be held accountable.”

The Calgary Police Service is proud to partner with Luna Child and Youth Advocacy Centre to support child abuse investigations, victims, and their families. Our Child Abuse Unit is located at Luna and is one of many organizations working collaboratively under one roof to provide a comprehensive, child-focused, and trauma-informed response to abuse. This integrated approach provides a safe space for children to receive support as they heal.
