Dr. Mukarram Ali Zaidi Launches NAKBA Education Series to Promote Human Rights and Peace Awareness

A Calgary-based physician, educator, and human rights advocate has launched a new educational initiative aimed at promoting historical awareness, peace, and human rights through age-appropriate learning resources focused on Palestine and the humanitarian impact of conflict.

Dr. Mukarram Ali Zaidi officially announced the release of the “NAKBA Education Series,” a three-part educational book collection developed to help students of different age groups better understand the historical, social, and humanitarian dimensions connected to Palestine. The project was introduced through the Calgary-based non-profit organization Think for Actions.

According to the press release, the series has been designed for elementary, middle school, high school, and university students, with each book tailored to the understanding and educational needs of specific age groups. The collection includes “Palestine: My Home, My Story” for younger children, “The Apartheid State of Israel and Colonization of Palestine” for junior high and middle school students, and “Palestine Colonized by a Two-State Solution” intended for senior students and university learners.

Dr. Zaidi stated that the purpose of the project is to encourage awareness, compassion, critical thinking, and informed discussion surrounding Palestinian history, displacement, public health concerns, media narratives, and international law. He emphasized that education remains one of the strongest tools for promoting peace, coexistence, and understanding among communities.

Serving as a Clinical Associate Professor at the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary, Dr. Zaidi said the books were created to help younger generations better understand issues related to justice, human dignity, coexistence, and peace through accessible educational material. The elementary-level edition introduces children to themes of empathy, fairness, resilience, and coexistence, while the middle and senior-level books examine historical developments, colonization, public health impacts, media representation, and human rights discussions.

The press release also noted that several academics, physicians, and community leaders have endorsed the educational value of the series, describing the books as accessible resources that encourage humanitarian dialogue and critical engagement with historical narratives.

Dr. Zaidi said the broader mission of the initiative is to promote peaceful coexistence and informed understanding within communities. He encouraged readers to pursue knowledge and constructive dialogue as part of efforts toward awareness and peace education.

The books are intended for educators, students, parents, libraries, advocacy organizations, and community groups interested in human rights, historical awareness, and educational discussions about peace and coexistence.
