International Urdu Literary Conference 2026 in Calgary Brings Global Writers and Poets Together

A major literary gathering is set to take place in Calgary as Bazm e Adab Society Calgary announces its International Urdu Literary Conference 2026 scheduled for May 3 2026. The event is being organized in collaboration with Think for Actions and reflects the growing presence and influence of Urdu literature within Canada’s multicultural landscape.

The conference will bring together a wide range of poets writers and intellectuals from Pakistan the United States and Canada creating a platform for cultural exchange and literary dialogue. Iftikhar Haider Kazmi has been named as the presiding figure of the Mushaira and is expected to lead the poetic proceedings with his extensive experience in Urdu literature.

Among the prominent participants are Dr Naveed Syed Mian Mahmood Aamir from Michigan USA and Shamsher Gul from Vancouver Canada. The international presence is further strengthened by well known literary personalities from Pakistan including Shazia Aalim Shazi from Karachi Ejaz Noor Khan and Dr Hina Amreen.

Special invited guests include Nazir Abbas Nazir from Orlando USA Dr Ghazala Nadeem from Houston Aarifa Zehra and Syed Ayaz Momin also from Houston whose participation adds further depth and diversity to the event.

The broader list of participants reflects a vibrant mix of emerging and established voices including Saman Tariq Mohsin Kazmi Suhail Afzal Shahid Pervez Jawad Gul Rana Subhan Iftikhar Awan Syed Ghulam Hussain Gohar Bukhari Javed Nizami Qazi Rashid Mian Ahmed Ahmed Mateen Khan Ghazal Syed Suhail Kashif Muhammad Naeem Chaudhry Waseem Siddiqui Rashid Baloch Ingram Sadia Riaz Dr Nasir Khalid Khurram Tauheed and Usman Sabir.

Additional contributors include Shakil Jilani Nasreen Kamal Shahbaz Mehdi Taba Khayal Ahmed Nizami and Dr Meraj Anjum Zaid ensuring a comprehensive and engaging literary program.

The event will be held at Mirchi Restaurant located at 76 Westwinds Crescent NE 1130 Calgary Alberta. Registration for the conference is free and the program will run from 1 pm to 4 pm.

Organizers say the aim of the conference is to promote Urdu literature foster community connections and provide a platform for writers and poets to share their work with a wider audience. With a strong lineup of participants and international representation the conference is expected to be one of the most significant Urdu literary events in Calgary this year.
