Calgary Police Service has confirmed that a woman injured during a domestic assault in northeast Calgary has died in hospital, while the accused teenager in the case remains in custody.

Emergency crews were called to a home in the Pineridge community on Sunday evening after reports of an altercation inside the residence.

When officers arrived, they found a woman in her 50s suffering from serious injuries and in critical medical condition.

She was taken to hospital where she later died from those injuries.

Police say the accused is a 15 year old boy who was arrested at the scene and has now been identified by investigators as the victim’s grandson.

Because the accused is a minor, his identity cannot be released under Canadian youth justice law.

He was initially charged with aggravated assault and mischief involving property damage, but investigators say the charges are expected to be upgraded following the victim’s death.

Authorities have not released the woman’s identity because the case involves both a youth offender and a domestic family incident.

Investigators say there is no indication of broader public risk connected to the case.

The incident remains under active investigation as police review evidence and prepare updated recommendations for prosecution.

Anyone with additional information is being asked to contact police directly or provide anonymous information through crime reporting channels.

Domestic violence investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the attack, including events inside the home before emergency services arrived.

Police say further updates may be released once legal procedures related to the revised charges are completed.
