A serious traffic collision in southeast Calgary has left a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries after being struck by an SUV while crossing the street.

The incident occurred during the early evening hours of Wednesday, March 4, 2026, drawing attention to pedestrian safety at busy city intersections.

Collision Details

According to available information, the crash happened at approximately 5:25 p.m. near the intersection of Second Street S.E. and Southland Drive Southeast. A black Cadillac Escalade was travelling southbound on Second Street S.E. when it struck a pedestrian who was crossing eastbound in an unmarked crosswalk.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene following reports of the collision.

Injuries and Emergency Response

The pedestrian, a 40-year-old man, sustained severe injuries during the crash and was transported to hospital for urgent medical treatment. Authorities described the injuries as serious and life-threatening.

The driver of the SUV, also a man in his 40s, was not injured in the incident and remained at the scene to cooperate with investigators.
