A routine traffic stop in southeast Calgary has led to a significant drug and weapon seizure, with a 46-year-old man now facing 12 criminal charges.

Officers from the Calgary Police Service District 6 unit pulled over a vehicle on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, after observing it travelling at a high rate of speed northbound on Macleod Trail near Heritage Drive S.E.

Following the stop, officers conducted standard field sobriety testing and determined the driver was believed to be impaired by drugs. The driver was arrested at the scene.

During a subsequent search, police seized approximately 425 grams of methamphetamine, valued at an estimated $3,035 on the street, along with 2.5 grams of fentanyl valued at roughly $220 and 2.3 grams of cocaine valued at approximately $250. Officers also recovered brass knuckles, bear spray, and about $3,700 in cash.

The total drug weight seized was nearly 430 grams.

Kevin Douglas Dalton, 46, has been charged with multiple offences, including three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, and two counts of possession of a concealed weapon.

Additional charges include possession of proceeds of crime, impaired operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, operating a motor vehicle without a licence, and possession of more than one identification.

Dalton is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, Feb. 27, 2026.

Police say the seizure highlights ongoing enforcement efforts targeting impaired driving and drug trafficking within city limits. Investigators continue to emphasize the risks posed by impaired drivers and the presence of illegal substances and weapons on Calgary streets.
