Pakistan Register Convincing 32-Run Win Over USA in T20 World Cup 2026

COLOMBO — Pakistan delivered a commanding all-round performance to defeat the United States by 32 runs in their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 group-stage encounter, strengthening their position in Group A and regaining momentum in the tournament.

After winning the toss, the United States opted to field, a decision Pakistan capitalized on under batting-friendly conditions. Opener Sahibzada Farhan led the charge with a fluent and aggressive half-century, dominating the powerplay and setting the foundation for a big total. His positive intent allowed Pakistan to maintain pressure on the USA bowlers from the outset.

At the other end, Babar Azam played a composed innings, anchoring the batting effort with smart strike rotation and timely boundaries. Although Pakistan lost wickets at regular intervals in the second half of the innings, the middle and lower order ensured the scoring rate did not dip.

Quick-fire contributions from Shadab Khan and others propelled Pakistan to a competitive 190 for 9 at the end of their 20 overs. The USA bowlers showed discipline in patches and managed to pick up key wickets, but they struggled to contain Pakistan during the crucial middle overs.

USA Chase Falters Against Pakistan Spin

Chasing 191, the United States began with positive intent, knowing an aggressive start was essential against Pakistan’s experienced attack. The openers showed early promise and briefly kept the chase alive.

However, the match turned decisively once Pakistan introduced spin. The spinners bowled with control and variation, applying sustained pressure and claiming crucial wickets at regular intervals. The USA middle order attempted to rebuild, with a few batters making useful contributions, but the rising required run rate proved difficult to manage.

Pakistan’s bowlers tightened their grip in the death overs, mixing pace, flight and length to restrict scoring opportunities. As wickets continued to fall, the USA chase lost momentum, and they eventually finished on 158 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Pakistan Gain Momentum, USA Take Lessons

The victory underlined Pakistan’s balance with both bat and ball, particularly the impact of their spinners in defending a challenging total. The win boosts Pakistan’s confidence as they progress deeper into the group stage.
