The great Imran Khan is the only leader who truly loves art and has always supported
artists, not only in Pakistan but all over the world. Artists across Pakistan, including
actors, singers, and musicians, have supported Imran Khan for his noble cause. However
the current cultural situation in KPK is getting worse. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is in
government for the third time in KPK, yet artists of every kind are unemployed and
struggling.

Pakistan Television Peshawar Center has become like a ghost center. Artists who
completed their work are still waiting for their payments, and the center now seems to
have turned into a political hub. A federal government political official is present there all
the time. On the other hand, the only cultural symbol of KPK, Nishter Hall, is now being
used only for political activities instead of cultural programs. Allegedly, only the
government of KPK or bureaucracy are permitted to hold events easily, whereas artists
interested and local artists are unable to do so due to the hurdles created by the
government itself. Most of the officials working in Nishter Hall are not even related to the
arts.

In other provinces like Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan, there are proper art councils, and
in Islamabad, the Pakistan National Council of Arts appoints qualified people from the
arts field. Only in KPK are art, culture, and tourism being run purely by bureaucracy.
According to sources, Habib Ullah Swati was appointed as Director General of the
Culture and Tourism Authority KPK on the recommendation of Faisal Ameen, the
brother of former Chief Minister Ameen Gandapur. During his seven-month tenure, he
allegedly spent millions of rupees on car repairs and engine bills and travelled to many
foreign countries on government expenses. There are also allegations of around 70
million rupees corruption in the Shandur Festival and Tirich Mir camping route projects.
Many other corruption activities are reportedly taking place in the Culture and Tourism
Authority.

All art lovers and artists demand that Chief Minister Sohail Afridi conduct a proper
inquiry into all this corruption and take serious action.
