Along with the opportunity to present at the panel discussion with Marion & Sharmila Ranabhat, it was really good to see people I have known for a long time working, volunteering, building a successful business get awarded. Among them were Saima Freya, Kimberley Tubrett, Suzanne Taylor, Marian Aston and the most touching one, my own mother, Sofia Khalil.
Highlights also included deserving single mothers getting financial awards to overcome challenges, go to University and start a business plus certificates of recognition to very deserving individuals in our community including Albert Woo who took these beautiful pictures.
The event was graced by MLAs like Julia Hayter, Iran Sabir, Parmeet Singh, GurinderBrar, Councilor Raj Dhaliwal, a diverse audience, a heart-touching dance depicting the life of a single mother, recognition of generous sponsors and inspiring speeches by founder of another single mom’s organization, Kaya, Leela Aheer, Lizette Tejada and Fizza Salim.
All our final gratitude and congratulations for organizing this beautiful brilliant Women’s day celebration goes to Shamaila Maqsood and her hardworking team at Calgary Single Mothers Society.
