Police have identified the victim of a fatal assault earlier this month in Calgary’s northeast community of Rundle as 51-year-old Troy Ernest Gouchee.
The investigation began on Friday, Feb. 13, 2026, at approximately 6:20 a.m., when officers were called to a residence in the 100 block of Rundlecairn Road N.E. for reports of an assault. Upon arrival, officers located a man in his 50s suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was transported to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Following an autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the death was confirmed as a homicide. Authorities have since identified the victim as Troy Ernest Gouchee.
Police have charged 64-year-old Cecil Lapp of Calgary with second-degree murder in connection with the incident. His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026.
Investigators say one man was taken into custody shortly after the incident and that no additional suspects are being sought. Officials believe the attack was targeted and have stated there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
The case is being led by the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit, which continues to gather evidence and determine the circumstances leading up to the fatal assault.
Police have not released further details regarding the relationship between the accused and the victim. The investigation remains ongoing.
