On February 8, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) marked the anniversary of the 2024 general elections with large-scale protests in Pakistan and coordinated demonstrations by supporters across the world. The party described the day as a symbol of resistance against what it calls the theft of the public mandate and the continued imprisonment of its founding chairman, Imran Khan.

Inside Pakistan, PTI announced February 8 as a protest and mourning day. Supporters attempted shutter-down strikes in several cities, while rallies and corner meetings were organized despite restrictions on public gatherings. In major urban centers, police presence remained heavy, with reports of detentions, road closures, and crackdowns on party workers. PTI leadership claimed the protests were peaceful and constitutional, while authorities cited law and order concerns to justify preventive actions.

The February 8 protests were closely linked to demands for the restoration of democratic rights, respect for the vote, and the release of Imran Khan. PTI leaders reiterated that the 2024 elections did not reflect the will of the people and that the current political setup lacks public legitimacy. The party used the anniversary to re-energize its support base and to send a message that political pressure would continue.

Alongside domestic protests, PTI supporters and overseas Pakistanis organized demonstrations in many countries around the world. Rallies, vigils, car caravans, and gatherings were reported in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Ireland, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Turkey, South Africa, and New Zealand. Smaller gatherings were also held in several other European and Middle Eastern cities. Protesters carried Pakistani flags, party symbols, and placards calling for justice, free elections, and the release of Imran Khan.

Overseas demonstrators emphasized that their protests were meant to raise international awareness about Pakistan’s political situation. Many participants described February 8 as a reminder that political instability and public discontent remain unresolved issues. Social media played a central role, with live streams and recorded messages amplifying the protests beyond physical locations.

Imran Khan’s health remained a central concern during the February 8 demonstrations. PTI leaders and family members have repeatedly expressed worries about his physical and mental well-being during prolonged incarceration. According to party statements, Khan has faced limited access to medical care, legal counsel, and family visits. While authorities have maintained that he is stable and receiving treatment, PTI supporters argue that transparency is lacking and independent medical assessments should be allowed.

Despite pressure, PTI leadership signaled that the February 8 protests were not a one-day event but part of a long political struggle. The party framed the movement as a fight for constitutional supremacy, civilian rights, and democratic continuity. The global scale of the protests highlighted the continued emotional and political connection between overseas Pakistanis and domestic politics, reinforcing PTI’s claim that its support extends far beyond Pakistan’s borders.
