A federal jury in Fort Worth, Texas has convicted nine defendants in connection with the July 2025 attack on the Prairieland ICE Detention Center.
The case followed a lengthy trial in which prosecutors presented witness testimony, digital evidence, and physical exhibits linked to the attack on the detention facility located in Alvarado.
Multiple Convictions Across Serious Federal Charges
The convictions include offences related to:
- riot involving violence
- use of explosives
- weapons-related offences
- obstruction
- attempted murder in one case
- support connected to violent criminal activity
Federal prosecutors said the convictions stem from coordinated actions during the overnight attack on the detention center.
Attack Included Fireworks, Weapons, and Property Damage
According to trial evidence, individuals involved in the incident arrived late at night wearing dark clothing and face coverings.
Authorities said fireworks and explosive devices were launched toward the detention facility.
Investigators also reported vandalism involving vehicles, structures, and security equipment on the property.
Police Officer Injured During Gunfire
During the incident, an officer from the Alvarado Police Department responded after emergency calls from detention staff.
Authorities said gunfire erupted shortly after officers arrived.
One officer suffered a neck injury during the shooting and later survived.
One Defendant Convicted on Attempted Murder Charge
Among the nine convicted defendants, Benjamin Song was found guilty on attempted murder charges related to the shooting of officers.
He was also convicted on firearm-related charges connected to the attack.
According to court findings, he faces the most severe potential sentence in the case.
Evidence Included Messaging and Firearm Records
Prosecutors presented encrypted communications, location data, and seized materials during the trial.
Investigators said digital conversations showed planning related to equipment, transportation, and actions before the attack.
Authorities also introduced evidence showing firearms, protective gear, and medical kits connected to individuals involved.
Additional Defendants Convicted in Related Roles
Several others were convicted on riot, explosives, and support-related charges, while one defendant was convicted for concealing materials linked to the investigation.
Another defendant was found guilty of conspiracy connected to hiding evidence.
Sentencing Hearings Still Pending
Federal sentencing hearings for all defendants are expected in coming months.
According to court officials:
- one defendant could face life imprisonment
- several others face long-term federal prison terms
- additional defendants who pleaded guilty earlier are also awaiting sentencing
Federal Agencies Led Investigation
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation along with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Texas law enforcement agencies.
Officials say the investigation remains one of the most closely watched federal criminal cases connected to an attack on a detention facility in recent years.
