Mark Carney met with Keir Starmer in London as both leaders reviewed major international security concerns and explored deeper bilateral cooperation.

The meeting formed part of Carney’s official visit to the United Kingdom and followed recent discussions among G7 leaders.

Middle East Crisis Dominates Bilateral Talks

The two prime ministers discussed the worsening conflict across the Middle East and voiced concern over continuing instability.

Both leaders condemned missile and drone attacks launched by Iran, particularly incidents affecting civilian areas and energy infrastructure.

They also warned that further escalation could deepen humanitarian suffering and increase pressure on global markets.

Rising Energy Prices Raise International Concern

During the meeting, both governments acknowledged that continued regional conflict could push energy prices higher and create wider economic consequences for multiple countries.

Energy security remained one of the major concerns linked to current geopolitical tensions.

Canada and UK Reaffirm Support for Ukraine

The leaders also reviewed the war involving Ukraine and stressed continued support against Russian military pressure.

They agreed that international pressure on Russia should continue until a lasting resolution is reached.

Defence Supply Chains and Financing Discussed

A major part of the meeting focused on defence cooperation between Canada and the UK.

Both sides examined ways to strengthen production capacity and supply chains linked to military readiness.

Among the ideas discussed was the proposed Defence, Security and Resilience Bank, aimed at mobilizing large-scale financing for future defence projects.

Economic and Security Cooperation to Expand

The two prime ministers reaffirmed that Canada and the UK remain close strategic partners with shared interests in security, economic growth and international stability.

Officials say both leaders agreed to remain in direct contact as major global developments continue.
