‘Sudip Sharma Cannot Make Crime Drama Without Me’: Jaideep Ahlawat on Kohrra 2 Cameo
After a blink-and-you-miss-it appearance in Kohrra 2, actor Jaideep Ahlawat has expressed gratitude for being part of the acclaimed crime drama — while joking that filmmaker Sudip Sharma is no longer “allowed” to make a crime procedural without him.
The second instalment of Kohrra premiered on Netflix on February 11, bringing back the intense storytelling and atmospheric tone that defined its first season.
A Playful Remark, A Genuine Appreciation
Ahlawat, who previously headlined Sharma’s acclaimed Prime Video series Paatal Lok, made a brief cameo as a railway lineman in Kohrra 2.
“I don’t think Sudip Bhai is allowed to make a crime procedural drama without me anymore,” the 46-year-old actor quipped, adding with a laugh that he was simply grateful to be part of the show — even if viewers might miss him on their first watch.
He described Kohrra as “a rare gem in storytelling,” praising its layered narrative and immersive atmosphere.
An Effortless Collaboration
Reflecting on his bond with Sharma, Ahlawat said working with the filmmaker feels effortless. According to the actor, the cameo happened organically when shooting schedules overlapped.
“Working with Sudip Bhai doesn’t even feel like work anymore,” he shared. The idea reportedly emerged after discussions with writers Gunjit Chopra and Diggy Sisodia, who saw potential in adding the subtle yet intriguing appearance.
The World of Kohrra Expands
Season two of Kohrra continues its exploration of crime and consequence in fog-covered Punjab, unraveling another complex murder mystery. Each twist reveals deeper connections and darker secrets, intensifying the show’s signature emotional depth.
The series, backed by Act Three Productions and Film Squad Productions, previously won the Best Web Series award at the 2024 Critics’ Choice Awards India — further cementing its reputation as one of India’s standout crime dramas.
The first season followed the death of an NRI, examining both the investigative process and the emotional toll on families involved. With its nuanced characters and haunting setting, the show quickly gained critical acclaim.
What’s Next for Ahlawat
Before his cameo in Kohrra 2, Ahlawat appeared in Ikkis, directed by Sriram Raghavan. He also has major projects lined up, including King directed by Siddharth Anand and the Hindi version of Drishyam 3, associated with Ajay Devgn.
While his role in Kohrra 2 may have been brief, Ahlawat’s playful comment and continued collaboration with Sharma underline a creative partnership that audiences clearly appreciate — and perhaps hope to see again in a more substantial capacity.
