City of Calgary says daily water consumption in Calgary remained within safe operating levels as work entered a new phase on the Bearspaw South Feeder Main.

According to the latest update, citywide water use reached 486 million litres yesterday, keeping overall demand within the green zone while crews continue critical infrastructure recovery operations.

Officials confirmed that refilling of the feeder main began this morning, marking a major step toward restoring the pipeline to normal service.

The refilling process is expected to take between two and three days and will require approximately 22 million litres of water.

City engineers explained that the additional water needed for refilling is being supplied through the Bearspaw treatment system and will not create additional pressure on the Glenmore water treatment plant.

Once the line is fully filled, water samples will be collected and sent for laboratory testing before any final operational decision is made.

Authorities say the testing stage is necessary to confirm water safety before the feeder main can be returned to regular service.

If all laboratory results meet safety standards, the city will proceed with the final process of bringing the system fully back online.

Meanwhile, surface repair work continues in areas where roads were opened to allow reinforcement of underground sections.

Crews are now preparing concrete curb and gutter installations, with paving work expected to begin early next week if weather conditions remain suitable.

Traffic movement has partially improved near the Point McKay section of 16 Avenue northwest, where one lane has reopened.

However, restrictions remain active near the Sarcee Trail work area, where drivers are being advised to expect changes and follow posted traffic instructions carefully.

City officials are also asking residents to continue voluntary conservation while the system stabilizes.

The target remains saving at least 25 litres of water per person each day.

Residents are encouraged to flush toilets only when necessary, limit showers to three minutes or less, and operate dishwashers and washing machines only when fully loaded.

Officials say public cooperation remains important until the feeder main is fully restored and normal operating conditions return across the city.
