Toddler Dies After Being Struck in Crosswalk

A tragic pedestrian-related collision in southwest Calgary has claimed the life of a toddler.

Emergency crews responded to the intersection of Hull Avenue S.W. and Horton Road S.W. at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2026, following reports of a child struck by a vehicle.

According to investigators, the toddler was seated in a stroller being pushed in a marked crosswalk by two adults when a westbound Jeep Cherokee turned south into the intersection and struck the stroller.

Child Pronounced Deceased

The child was transported to hospital in critical condition but was pronounced deceased at approximately 6 p.m.

Police confirmed that neither of the adults pushing the stroller sustained injuries in the collision.

Driver Cooperative, Investigation Ongoing

The driver of the Jeep remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Authorities say neither impairment nor speed are believed to be factors in the incident.

The collision remains under investigation as officers work to determine the exact circumstances that led to the tragedy.

Road Closures in Effect

Roads in the surrounding area are expected to remain closed for four to six hours while collision reconstruction takes place. Drivers are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
