Toyota Driver in Life-Threatening Condition After School Bus Crash in Calgary

A Toyota driver is in life-threatening condition after colliding with a school bus carrying 20 students at Macleod Trail and 99 Avenue S.W. in Calgary. Investigation ongoing.

Senior Driver Critically Injured in School Bus Collision

A man in his 70s is in life-threatening condition following a serious collision involving a school bus in southwest Calgary on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash occurred at approximately 3:40 p.m. on Feb. 11, 2026, at the intersection of Macleod Trail S. and 99 Avenue S.W.

According to police, a 2008 Toyota Corolla was attempting to turn left from northbound Macleod Trail onto 99 Avenue S.W. when it crossed into the path of a 2015 Freightliner Saf-T-Liner C2 school bus travelling southbound.

Bus Carrying 20 Students at Time of Crash

The bus, carrying approximately 20 students between the ages of 14 and 16, struck the Toyota on the right side. After the initial impact, the bus continued forward and hit a traffic signal pole. The force of the collision pushed the pole into the cab area, trapping the bus driver inside.

Emergency crews transported the Toyota driver to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The bus driver, a man in his 80s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries and has since stabilized.

One student was treated at the scene for minor injuries. No additional student injuries were reported.

Investigation Underway

Investigators have stated that speed and impairment are not believed to be contributing factors in the crash. The exact cause of the collision remains under investigation.

Authorities continue to work with The City of Calgary to advance the Safer Mobility Plan, which aligns with the Vision Zero strategy aimed at eliminating traffic fatalities and serious injuries.

Officials are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact police.
