Calgary Police Conduct Second Safer Calgary – Operation Order Initiative

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) is carrying out another focused enforcement and outreach effort under its Safer Calgary initiative.

On Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2026, officers launched the second “Safer Calgary – Operation Order” initiative in downtown Calgary and surrounding areas. The operation brings together CPS members, Calgary Community Safety and Transit Public Safety peace officers, and the Alberta Sheriffs in a coordinated response aimed at improving safety in priority areas.

Throughout the day, officers are proactively engaging with individuals, connecting vulnerable people with community supports and, where necessary, enforcing laws and bylaws related to drug use, possession, trafficking, social disorder, and violent offences.

A Coordinated Public Safety Strategy

Safer Calgary is a focused initiative designed to enhance public safety through strategic patrols, targeted enforcement, community outreach, and referrals to support services. These operations complement ongoing daily enforcement carried out by patrol officers and the Community Engagement Response Team (CERT).

Chief McLellan emphasized that the effort is part of a sustained commitment.

“In November, when we introduced Operation Order, we acknowledged that many Calgarians were feeling uneasy in our downtown core,” said Chief McLellan. “We support Calgarians’ right to feel safe downtown. This was never intended to be a one-day effort. It is a sustained commitment to restoring safety and order in our public spaces, by connecting people with supports and enforcing the law where we need to.”

Community Safety peace officers are addressing bylaw matters, Transit Public Safety is focusing on transit-related concerns, and Alberta Sheriffs are supporting enforcement efforts as part of the integrated operation.

Results from Previous Safer Calgary Operations

CPS reports measurable outcomes from earlier operations under the Safer Calgary umbrella:

Operation CERTainty (February–April 2025):

  • 3,478 calls attended
  • 373 charges laid
  • 1,967 summonses issued
  • 2,197 social agency referrals
  • 2,062 business contacts

Operation Order (November 2025):

  • 204 calls attended
  • 40 charges laid against 25 individuals
  • 220 CPS warrants executed
  • 217 proactive community engagements
  • 115 social agency referrals
  • 25 encampments attended, six cleaned up

Operation Jingle All the Way (December 2025):

  • 73 calls attended
  • 72 summonses issued
  • 73 CPS warrants executed
  • 11 charges laid
  • More than 400 proactive community engagements
  • 70 social agency referrals
  • Six encampments attended and cleaned up

Balancing Enforcement and Support

Police leaders stress that enforcement alone cannot address complex social challenges such as homelessness, substance use, and mental health issues. CPS continues working closely with social agencies including the Calgary Drop-In Centre and Alpha House to ensure vulnerable individuals are connected to shelter, health care, housing, and ongoing supports.

Authorities are encouraging residents to continue reporting crime and social disorder, noting that these initiatives are data-driven and designed to deploy resources where they are needed most.

The Safer Calgary initiative focuses on Centre City communities including Beltline, Chinatown, Downtown Commercial Core, Downtown East Village, Downtown West End, and Eau Claire, as part of ongoing efforts to restore public confidence and safety in Calgary’s downtown core.
