Calgary police are investigating two separate shootings in the city’s northeast that are believed to be connected to an ongoing extortion campaign targeting members of the South Asian community.

The incidents, which occurred on consecutive nights, are being investigated in partnership with the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT).

The first shooting took place around 2:45 a.m. on Sunday, February 22, 2026. According to investigators, two unidentified individuals arrived at a residence in the 8400 block of Saddleridge Drive N.E. and fired multiple gunshots into the home before fleeing in a white sedan. No injuries were reported.

Less than 24 hours later, at approximately 12:10 a.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026, another shooting occurred at a residence in the 300 block of Savanna Park N.E. In that case, a single suspect reportedly fired several shots into the home and then fled the scene on foot. Authorities have not confirmed whether the same individuals were involved in both incidents.

Police say both shootings are believed to be linked to a broader pattern of extortion attempts that have recently targeted Calgary’s South Asian community. Investigators are actively working to determine the identities of those responsible and to prevent further incidents.

Deputy Chief Asif Rashid of the Calgary Police Service Bureau of Investigative Support described the incidents as deeply troubling. He emphasized that law enforcement agencies are committed to protecting residents and ensuring those responsible are held accountable.

Officials are urging anyone who has received threats or has information related to the shootings or the extortion scheme to contact police. Authorities stress that community cooperation is critical in stopping fear-based tactics designed to intimidate and exploit vulnerable residents.

The investigation remains ongoing.
