Police in Calgary are continuing their investigation into a growing series of residential break-and-enter incidents believed to be connected to organized travelling crime groups operating across multiple provinces.

Authorities say the crimes follow a consistent pattern and appear to be part of a broader trend involving coordinated groups targeting homes during short periods when residents are away.

Dozens of Homes Targeted in 2026

Investigators with the Calgary Police Service have identified 43 residential break-and-enter cases since the beginning of 2026 that share similar indicators linked to these travelling criminal networks.

Most of the incidents have occurred in northwest and south Calgary communities, including:

  • Aspen Woods
  • Douglasdale
  • Edgemont
  • Evergreen
  • Hamptons
  • Patterson
  • Scenic Acres
  • Woodbine

Police believe the suspects are strategically selecting homes in quieter residential areas and monitoring properties before carrying out the break-ins.

Offences Occurring During Early Evening

Investigators say the crimes typically occur between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., a time when many residents are briefly away running errands, attending activities, or visiting family.

In many cases, suspects are believed to enter properties through backyards, allowing them to avoid being seen from streets or sidewalks. Once inside, they focus on quickly stealing high-value and easily transportable items such as jewelry, cash and other valuables.

Police say the groups often consist of two to three individuals, who frequently wear gloves and masks to conceal their identities while committing the crimes.

In at least one reported incident, suspects removed an entire safe from a home, demonstrating their willingness to take larger items if they believe they will not be interrupted.

Vehicles of Interest

Investigators are asking the public to help identify three vehicles believed to be associated with the break-and-enter series:

  • Ford Escape ST-Line — black in colour with dark wheels and a light bar stretching across the front
  • Toyota RAV4 — black with heavy window tinting
  • Toyota Highlander — black with black wheels

Police say these vehicles may be seen driving slowly through neighbourhoods, circling streets, or parked in unusual locations during the hours when the offences are occurring.

Public Asked to Remain Vigilant

Authorities are urging residents to report suspicious activity immediately, particularly:

  • Unfamiliar vehicles repeatedly driving through neighbourhoods during early evening hours
  • Groups of individuals moving between homes or checking backyards
  • Any unusual behaviour that appears out of place
  • Homes that appear to be targeted when residents are briefly away

Safety Advice for Homeowners

Police are also encouraging homeowners to take preventative steps to reduce the likelihood of being targeted, including:

  • Keeping all doors and windows locked
  • Leaving lights on during early evening hours
  • Installing alarm systems or security cameras where possible
  • Securing valuables in bolted or concealed safes
  • Storing particularly high-value items off-site when appropriate

Investigators say public awareness and timely reporting can play a key role in identifying suspects and disrupting the operations of travelling crime groups.

Anyone who sees the vehicles of interest or notices suspicious behaviour is encouraged to contact police.
