Body Discovered in Bow River Near Prince’s Island Park
Emergency responders were called to the Bow River on Thursday afternoon after a deceased individual was found in the water just north of Prince’s Island Park.
Calgary police said the call came in at approximately 1:40 p.m. The body was located west of the Centre Street Bridge.
In a statement, police confirmed they were responding to reports of a deceased person in the river. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was contacted to determine further details.
Bystander Alerted Authorities
According to Alex Kwan, Public Information Officer with the Calgary Fire Department, the body was discovered face down in the water by a bystander walking along the river pathway.
Fire crews responded with a district engine and the aquatic rescue team. However, once responders confirmed the individual was deceased and that rescue efforts were not viable, the aquatic team was stood down.
Kwan noted that it appeared the body had been in the water for some time. Emergency personnel subsequently transported the individual to shore.
Death Not Considered Suspicious
Police later provided an update stating that the death is not believed to be suspicious or criminal in nature.
“As such, no further information will be released,” police said.
Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased. The investigation remains under the direction of the medical examiner.
