Canada Revenue Agency is preparing to issue the next quarterly federal payment to eligible households across Canada, but this time under a new name as the long standing GST credit becomes the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit.

The payment is scheduled to arrive on April 2 and will continue serving low and modest income individuals and families by helping offset consumption taxes and rising daily living costs.

Federal officials say the rebranding reflects a broader focus on affordability as food prices and essential household expenses remain elevated across the country.

The benefit amount continues to depend on household income, marital status, and the number of eligible children under nineteen, using information from the previous tax return.

Eligible individuals may receive up to 533 dollars if single, while married couples or common law partners may receive up to 698 dollars.

Families can also receive 183 dollars for each qualifying child under nineteen years of age.

This payment includes the annual indexation adjustment for the 2025 benefit year, with rates increasing by 2.7 percent.

A further one time top up is also expected later this spring.

Mark Carney had announced earlier this year that the government would provide an additional temporary increase equal to fifty percent of the annual benefit value.

That extra support is intended to help more than twelve million Canadians and represents about 3.1 billion dollars in total federal relief.

Officials have indicated the top up will be issued as early as possible during spring and no later than June 2026, although a precise payment date has not yet been confirmed.

The government says the move comes as food inflation continues to pressure household budgets, with grocery costs still showing noticeable year over year increases.

Payment levels will be recalculated again in July when the next quarterly benefit is issued.

The July payment is expected to reflect a larger adjustment because the grocery support program is scheduled to increase by twenty five percent for the next five years.

Federal estimates suggest that expanded support could deliver 8.6 billion dollars overall and include approximately half a million additional individuals and families in coming years.

After the April and July transfers, further payments are scheduled for early October under the regular quarterly cycle.
