Albania has raised its national security alert after a warning issued by the United States Embassy in Tirana about possible threats connected to groups linked to Iran.
Albanian authorities say security institutions are operating at full readiness, with all protective mechanisms active across the country.
According to official statements, Bajram Begaj is receiving daily updates through the national security structure and remains in close contact with senior institutions responsible for monitoring risks.
The warning from the US embassy indicated that possible threats could affect Americans, US related institutions, and members of the Iranian opposition residing in Albania.
Officials also urged increased vigilance in public spaces including tourist zones, shopping centres, hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues.
The warning has intensified attention because Albania hosts members of Iranian opposition groups who have previously been identified as potential targets in regional security assessments.
Authorities say cooperation with international partners remains at a very high operational level.
At the same time, Bulgaria has confirmed receiving a diplomatic communication from Iran concerning military concerns linked to regional airspace.
Officials in Sofia acknowledged that Tehran had sent a formal message warning against allowing US military aircraft to use Bulgarian airports for operations directed at Iran.
The diplomatic communication followed reports of American military aircraft activity near the Bulgarian capital.
Former foreign minister Nadezhda Neynski described the message as a normal diplomatic warning during periods of international tension.
She stated that Bulgarian authorities informed Iran that no combat operations were being launched from Bulgarian territory and that there had been no refuelling or military attack activity involving national infrastructure.
Officials also said the diplomatic note was not made public immediately to avoid creating public anxiety during a politically sensitive period linked to national elections.
The developments in both Albania and Bulgaria reflect wider concern across southeastern Europe as regional governments closely monitor possible consequences of broader international tensions.
Security experts say even precautionary warnings are taken seriously because of the strategic position of Balkan states within wider NATO security planning.
